Born in Michigan, I moved to Durango after 30 years in Denver. I have been a licensed Real Estate Broker since 1999, joining Coldwell Banker in 2005. I have always been a full time Realtor and enjoy helping both Buyers and Sellers. I am a certified Coldwell Banker Relocation Specialist and truly understand that Buyers, especially those new to the Durango area, can take a lot of time and education before they commit to purchasing. And my straightforward professional attitude assures Sellers of top-notch service in staging, marketing exposure, contracts, and negotiations. But if you think I’m no fun, guess again! Before my Real Estate career, I received a Business degree in Hospitality Administration and held various management positions with the Hyatt Corporation. Before that, I spent over ten years as a singer/songwriter in a Colorado band called Blackhawk, even playing in Durango venues back in the day!

Locally, Jeff is best known for being  Durango's Weather Guy and launching a local Facebook page dedicated to bringing the most accurate weather to our geographically challenging region of Colorado Durango Snow Lovers having been an amateur weather guy all of his life and informally studying meteorology for 30 years. He was born and raised in Iowa, moved to Denver in 1992, and Durango in 2008. Professionally, he spent 15 years in Finance, Investment Banking and Venture Capital. In 2003 he became a licensed Colorado Real Estate Broker. He also received a job offer in Operations Management, which he took. After 11 years he left that company and once again got his Real Estate license to join me as my business partner.

 We enjoy working with all Buyers and Sellers, regardless of price, from a $50,000 lot to a $5,000,000 estate. We are active in the community, we do volunteer work for the United Way and Habitat for Humanity where Susan sits on the Board of Directors. We are fun people to work with, we are experienced, innovative and savvy, and we promise an excellent experience. Here are what others have said: 

Susan and Jeff really went above and beyond helping us through a challenging mid-winter marketing on a tight timeframe.  With three feet of snow on the ground in Forest Lakes, frigid winter temperatures, and buyers about beating the door down, we moved across the country confident that the Givens’ wouldn’t let us down.  Our worries about power outages, lingering maintenance items due before the closing, pipes freezing, etc. were very real but were adeptly handled by the Givens’ in our absence.  We had to trust them implicitly and they did not let us down.

From start to finish, Susan uses a collaborative style that takes into account the needs of sometimes demanding clients (yes, I’ll admit it) while she tactfully kept us from throwing a monkey wrench into the works.  This being our second transaction with Susan, there is no doubt our faith was well-founded in their abilities and tactics as brokers. 

The closing was nearly stress-free and had stayed on schedule from the day the contract was signed. 

During the “heat of battle”, we had actually offered additional compensation to the Givens’ for the extra visits and attention required by our situation.  The fact they declined our offer was yet another indicator of their commitment to their clients, regardless of arising challenges.

Susan was recommended by an associate at work over six years ago, and I now am willing to do the same having experienced twice the Givens' professionalism and excellent service.  While most realtors claim service and relationships are #1, with the Givens’ it truly is a “Given” as their tagline states.

Susan and Jeff Givens are the best! They have handled transactions for us selling our Durango condo as well as buying rural land. They go the extra mile on every step from listing to closing. They helped us find contractors to make the condo sparkle, helped us find places for furnishings we did not want to keep and saved our closing from a last minute title glitch with their perseverance. They held frequent and well-organized showings and met contractors for us when we were not able to be in Durango. And when we purchased a vacant property near our home, they walked that deal through without a hitch, start to finish. We think very highly of Susan and Jeff; you cannot find a more professional real estate team in the Four Corners region!
